Kuala Lumpur, 17 August 2020 – Wong & Partners, a member firm of Baker McKenzie International is proud to announce that our partners and Firm have won several awards at the recent Asian Legal Business (ALB) Malaysia Law Awards 2020. This year’s Awards ceremony was held virtually on 14 August 2020, due to Covid-19 restrictions.
Managing Partner Munir Abdul Aziz was named Dealmaker of the Year on the back of his wide breadth of corporate work and M&A deals executed throughout the period under review.
“This is unexpected but I am very grateful to have been recognised by ALB. I share this with my colleagues because the successful completion of these deals stems from the team’s effective collaboration and collective hard work. My sincere thanks also go to our wonderful clients for their trust,” said Munir.
Former Managing Partner Andre Gan was the recipient of the Managing Partner of the Year award. Along with his strong portfolio of work, Andre was also recognised for his efforts to strengthen the firm’s internal policies aimed at supporting diversity and inclusion and mental health. Andre’s term as MP concluded on 30 June 2020.
Andre said: “I am grateful for the recognition from ALB, which is a wonderful way to cap my term as MP. During my tenure, I was fortunate to be able to always count on the support of my fellow Partners and heads of departments who embraced my policy changes and helped make them a success. The Firm also was named the Tax and Trusts Law Firm of the Year, which is a reflection of the innovative and unique work done by Tax, Trade and Wealth Management practice group.
