An introduction to the Knowledge Archive

Reading Time: 3 minutes

The Knowledge Archive is written and built with different users in mind. Although the initial focus is on law and the legal industry in Singapore, the articles will expand into other professional areas as our platform develops.

Some readers may seek to further their understanding of certain topics before seeking professional assistance. Other readers come to the archive with the intention of updating themselves with the latest development within an industry.

Whatever your need, whatever your situation, we hope to give you up-to-date information that provides different perspectives (from private individuals to private organisations to public and governmental bodies). By understanding the work involved, you and your organisation may then make the best decisions by selecting relevant professionals for your specific requirements.

While our articles are updated and professional lexicons are used to the best of our writers’ abilities, please note that information provided here are a summary and they are accurate as of the date written. It cannot substitute for professional advice as some provisions of the law or regulations referred to may have important exceptions or qualifications.

As such, we strongly encourage discussing your situation with a qualified professional adviser who will take into account your particular circumstances and inform you on how the law may apply to your specific situation. This is particularly relevant for cases that go across borders – you may wish to seek such advisers by using our filters that allow you to search companies according to the areas of operation, jurisdiction and languages used.

If you believe you can contribute to our Knowledge Archive, please contact us and we will give you our guidelines for contribution.

Please note the explanatory notes for the following series:

Curveball series:

The writers of this series imagine the worst situations. What happens when the key person of a large organisation meets an untimely end? What happens when you receive threats against the personal safety of you and your family? What happens when personal relationships sour? Remember: it’s not what happens but how you respond to what happens to you. We prepare for the worst by walking you through the steps you may wish to take in the face of disasters – personal or otherwise. Feel free to print out checklists and tick against them as you request further information from the relevant authorities. Speak to your legal adviser about the legal documents meant to protect you, your family and your assets when the worst strikes. Whatever curveballs come your way – we help you stay prepared.

#livelovelaughlaw series:

Where the writers explore the human side of legal professionals: what makes a lawyer laugh? Why pursue law? Do lawyers live and let live? Do they know what love is? A partly humorous and wholly entertaining read about different lawyers in different industries and firms.

Black Sheep series:

The writers of this series follow the straying of lawyers from their path of professionalism. What constitutes professional behaviour of a lawyer? Who judges the standard of care and what can a disciplinary tribunal do? What behaviours have caused lawyers to be struck off the rolls and what have lawyers been warned against? We discuss behaviour – not individuals so that misbehaving lawyers who have been disciplined are not hounded by their past misdeeds. We highlight issues that the lay person should be aware of in hiring a lawyer. After all, lawyers are human too!
