- Singapore law is based on English Common Law (similar to the UK and Hong Kong) since we predominantly follow UK judgments
- It is derived from our Constitution, legislation, subsidiary legislation and judge-made law
- There are two tiers of courts in Singapore — 1) the State Courts and 2) the Supreme Court; each court handles different types of legal cases within its jurisdiction

Deciding which court is the most relevant for a case would depend on the nature of the case and also the amount of the claim — the lower claims are handled by the State Courts and higher claims end up in the High Court.
