New Accelerator for Legal Tech Launched: GLIDE by SAL

Reading Time: 2 minutes

As of 3 June 2019, applications have been open for Asia’s first accelerator targeting legal tech start-ups: GLIDE. GLIDE, or the Global Legal Innovation and Digital Entrepreneurship Grant, is inviting startups across the globe to drive technological innovation in Singapore’s legal scene. Successful applicants will be notified in July.

Initiated by the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) flagship Future Law Innovation Programme (FLIP), the programme is its accelerator arm to help cultivate disruption in the industry. GLIDE is a three month programme specifically designed for technology firms using artificial intelligence, blockchain, advanced analytics, and automated data collection and analysis. GLIDE requires applicants to have at least a working prototype, and be either in their pre-revenue or post-revenue stages.

Under GLIDE, participants will have access to the SAL’s resources which would be especially helpful for such deep-tech startups which often require significant subject-matter expertise and data. Additionally, participants can expect to be provided invaluable mentorship opportunities with the SAL. Participants will have to pay a participation fee to join the programme.

“Armed with these, they will be better able to pitch and position their product and services to a variety of investors that may include SAL,” explained Mr Paul Neo, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director of SAL Ventures.

GLIDE prides itself in departing from the traditional accelerator model by not taking automatic equity in participating start-ups. They hope to instead foster an environment of accelerated growth and to equip start-ups with the contacts and skills to make their mark in the industry.
